Stress Management Programme
'The adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed on them.' – HSE definition of stress
Why tackle work-related stress?
To combat sickness absence
- Work-related stress accounts for over a third of all new incidences of ill health.
- Each case of stress-related ill health leads to an average of 30.2 working days lost.
- A total of 13.8 million working days were lost to stress, depression and anxiety in the UK in 2006/7.
To benefit your business
As well as reducing sickness absence costs to an organisation, tackling stress can have a positive effect on:
- Employee commitment to work
- Staff performance and productivity
- Staff turnover or intention to leave
- Staff recruitment and retention
- Customer satisfaction
- Organisational image and reputation
To comply with the law
Employers have duties
- Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to assess the risk of stress-related ill health arising from work activities; and
- Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 to take measures to control that risk.
No matter what the initial cause, stress affects the entire individual, at work, at home and with relationships. It affects mind, body and spirit. It is a holistic dis-ease that requires a holistic response.
Stress is experienced at the individual and personal level. We are all different with our own unique genetic makeup and personal experiences. This means what we find stressful, how we react to stress and how we deal with it is personal to us. Consequently, a stress management programme needs to be personalized to the individual participant and be capable of influencing all aspects of her/his life.
This two day workshop offers
- A programme built around the Myers Briggs Type Indicator [MBTI], the most widely used, respected and researched instrument for understanding personality differences
- A programme incorporating Neuro Linguistic Programming [NLP] offering effective tools for change
- A programme that incorporates the ‘Medical Model’ for stress and cutting edge research from neuroendocrinology
- A programme that offers simple yet effective tools to deal with reactive stress; tools for when you are in the middle of a stressful episode
- A programme that offers tried and trusted strategies to deal with stress proactively
- A programme built round multi-level communication, ensuring we engage all participants
- A holistic programme respecting mind, body & spirit
Who is this programme for?
- This programme is ideal for people who are showing signs of stress or who have a history of stress related sickness
- People currently on sick leave, as part of a rehabilitation programme
- As a preventative measure for people undertaking stressful work or who wish/need to reset their work/life balance
- For HR staff who want to learn more about stress and stress management techniques
How will it benefit participants?
- This programme gives participants a deep understanding of their personality type, their gifts and talents and the type of work best suited to them
- It gives participants an understanding of how stress affects the body and mind [stress is an associated factor in every illness] and some simple measures they can take to control adverse effects
- It gives them the awareness to recognize when they are getting stressed and the tools to deal with it; reactive stress management
- It gives them the tools and strategies to develop their own proactive stress management plan
Managing Change
Outplacement, Re-structuring, Career Development
The uncertainty associated with change can be very stressful. Change at work, be it due to a re-organisation, re-deployment, redundancy or retirement, affects different personality types in different ways. By focusing on the positive we help our clients identify their strengths and potential and use these in a greater variety of settings.
Our one-day workshop will help participants to:
- manage change and stress effectively
- identify and acknowledge their strengths, resources and transferable skills
- realise that they are not limited by present circumstances and look forward with enthusiasm
- let go of negative thoughts and feelings, regain their equanimity and move on
The benefits to your organisation are:
- fulfilment of statutory requirements
- tangible and visible support for staff welfare
- a happy and motivated work force
- outgoing staff feel supported to move forward
- enhanced company profile
This Workshop is valuable not just for people facing the challenge of change but also for those who are ‘stuck in a rut’. Lack of motivation and poor productivity can drain a business, so let us help you motivate and transform your greatest asset.
The workshop can stand alone or form the basis for individual career development coaching or outplacement counselling.
Effective Leadership and Management
An effective organisation needs vision to guide delivery and delivery to realise vision
We recognise that inspiring leaders are not necessarily good managers – the reverse is also true. However both leadership and managerial qualities are imperative to organisational success. Our programme is not about management systems, but about the people who manage the systems. We are concerned with getting the best out your managers, so they in turn can get the best out of the people at every level of your organisation, whatever their area of work.
This unique programme will help managers to:
- maximise their core capabilities and identify areas they need to draw support to
- identify and trust their innate decision making processes
- develop and gain confidence in their management style
- approach problems creatively and effectively
- communicate more effectively with their managers and staff
- articulate the organisation’s strategic plan and core values
- inspire and motivate their team
- set clear performance targets for themselves and staff
- recognise and value individuals’ strengths and get the best out of the team
This programme is available as a two day group workshop or as executive coaching.
Team Building Programme
A team
- with a clear mission shared by all its members
- with clear and accepted goals and milestones
- which communicates and works together in harmony
- where every individual knows and accepts their role, responsibility and contribution
- where every individual is valued
- where success is celebrated and built upon - is an organisation’s greatest asset
Our Team Building Workshop will help develop your team into that highly productive unit. The main tools we use in this workshop are the MBTI and NLP supported with our practical and academic experience.
The MBTI helps individuals identify their strengths, resources and preferred ways of working thereby enabling them to make a greater contribution to the team. It also explains difference and promotes an understanding of others’ gifts and contributions; this enhances team morale and productivity. NLP is a highly effective tool to frame clear missions, set positive goals and map out success in both the individual and team spheres.
The MBTI and NLP have a positive orientation that is empowering for both individuals and teams. It is the collaborative pooling of resources in a well functioning team that creates value over and above the individual contributions of team members. In addition, these tools can smoothly and effectively bring to the surface conflict and interpersonal difficulties within a team and through a process of enhancing self awareness work to resolve them.
We offer this as a one or two day programme to suit your needs, with a follow-up day after three weeks.
Effective Communication
An alternative take on diversity, staff and customer care
Most training in this area focuses on race, gender, sexual orientation and disability. While we accept these factors play a part in the way we communicate with each other, we are keen not to put people in boxes. Our personality-based programme aims to bring people together whatever their background and life experience. It will demonstrate that we have more in common than that which divides us.
